I  have often referred to my career in the health and fitness industry as a passionate love affair. The relationship was budding early on when I  was 10 or 11 with being slightly obsessed with the new aerobics craze but the real relationship started in high school and like most high school romances it was new, fresh and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I  took my first job as a group exercise instructor at the ripe age of 17 (step aerobics at Let’s Get Physical) and never looked back. Now, as you may already know, relationships aren’t always perfect. There can be abuse, neglect, and addiction and my relationship with food and fitness in my teens and twenties (thirties too) was riddled with all of these.  Body dysmorphia, anorexia bulimia, exercise bulimia, drugs like speed to push me through the exhaustion of not eating so I could workout on the stair master for 2 hours. I was a mess.

Ultimately I broke off that toxic and dysfunctional relationship and found a healthy way to love exercise and food and more importantly ….. love myself which was the key. Like most strong, long lasting relationships, I learned how to be patient, hard working and a much better communicator.

Once I got to a better place emotionally and mentally, my career began to flourish, taking roles as Master Trainer and educator for international Fitness Programs, fitness leader and head coach for both a private franchise and corporate owned Orangetheory Fitness, private studio management, program director for a large gym, created a DVD and digital workout called Kinetic Motion, program developer for a boutique fitness studio in New York City called GRIT BXNG, and do nutrition, fitness, lifestyle coaching.

I  laughingly say that I make a living making people uncomfortable but the truth is I  get the opportunity to watch people work through emotional and physical obstacles so that they too can have a beautiful and healthy relationship with food and exercise. The 40+ space has a sea of men and woman that are in a health and fitness slump and The Masters Fitness is their “Marriage Counselor”.

I  am not only hot and heavy for what I  do career wise, but also with whom I  get to do it with. Chan and I live and work together and yes… even workout together. Together we get the pleasure of being parents to his 2 teens and my 2 teens… and a 5 year old.  Life is busy and we have a lot to stay healthy and fit for.

Since 1996, I have followed my passion and enthusiasm for teaching others how to move their bodies, and move with purpose. My clear and unique style of training and educating is easy to understand and more importantly, immediately increases your ability to execute at a higher level. This translating information in a useable way relates to clients, business owners, and fitness professionals. My career has taken me to 4 countries, 28 states, and countless cities. I always keep a foot in personal training and group training by keeping a small book of private clients and teaching group training classes. Little secret….I absolutely love coaching indoor cycling classes. Little secret #2….I am 53.

With all the private clients and students in group training, my corporate and director roles were the outlets in helping me deliver my passion to thousands of people. My almost 8 years with Orangetheory Fitness was an experience that changed my life, as I helped launch the first 350 locations as the Corporate Fitness and Education Director. My most recent role as Fitness and Education Director for GRIT BXNG in NYC is the most unique experience, as I built the training curriculum and workout structure and designs from ZERO. Kerry greatly assisted in the workout development piece over 2019.

Personally, I “most” always practice what I preach with over 30 years of training and competing in everything from mountain bike racing, triathlons, road cycling, rowing, strength training, running events and more. When I say “most”, I mean I have work - life balance issues just like the rest of you, at times. For the most part though, my last 30 years of exercise and training has left my body in good-to-great shape year around. Like you, I sometimes feel strong, fast, and amazing while other times, I wonder what the hell happened to me?

Lastly, I was born and raised on Louisiana and cherish my trips back home 3-4 time a year. The delicious and spicy food and lifestyle back home usually have me coming home to Florida “wondering what the hell happened to me?” In all seriousness, I always find time to get in at least 1-2 training sessions while I am there. Note to all of you: You can’t out train a bad diet if you’re 40+. Sorry.
